Methodology

The first important step should be the assessment of the platform’s feasibility, perhaps starting from surveys conducted at the subnational level in European countries, beginning from January 2018 onwards (especially data collected through probabilistic sampling methods) and undertaken with Ukrainians. The focus of the study has to be as narrow as possible and as broad as needed not to risk overlooking important aspects of migrant integration. It would probably be easier to start with surveys selected from the Ethinc and Migrant Minorities Survey Registry, among those deemed of enough quality, focusing on specific topics, and for which the data would be readily and publicly available.

Principal data sources: survey data, user reviews/stories, aggregate-level statistical & administrative data.

Data: Quantitative, Qualitative, Geographically detailed (best at the municipality level); Timely (2018 onwards); Different types (e.g., pictures, audio, podcasts).

Data validity/reliability: ‘To the best of our knowledge’ approach

Long-term sustainability of the platform: First, through the back-end of the platform, users/data producers will be able to contribute (autonomously) useful findings from research they have conducted. Second, users will also be able to comment/review the practical access to rights and the actual living conditions in a specific place.

Other Key Tools:

EMM Survey Registry: The Ethnic and Migrant Minorities (EMM) Survey Registry is a free online tool that allows users to search for and learn about existing quantitative surveys conducted with EMM (sub)populations through the compiled survey-level metadata.

Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX): MIPEX is a unique tool which identifies and measures integration policies and identifies the links between integration policies, outcomes and public opinion, drawing on international scientific studies.

IMISCOE Migration Hub: The IMISCOE Migration Research Hub brings knowledge on migration under one roof. From the latest literature to comprehensive topical indexes, to an international and multidisciplinary expert database. Drawing on a combination of digital resources and thematic expertise, it aims to be the go-to resource for systematic knowledge accumulation and collaborative knowledge management in migration studies.
