With the rapid advancement of new data sources, tools and methods, there is an unprecedented opportunity to improve migrants’ orientation by developing methodology and network to share a) research/survey outputs on migrant integration, b) official statistics and c) available administrative data with migrants and help them make better-informed decisions where to move and settle. Such data, together with migrants’ real-time feedback/reviews on settlement places could optimise migrants’ settlement decisions.
Currently, data/information on migrant integration, that could improve migrants’ orientation and, subsequently, their lives, is usually fragmented and does not arrive at the target population/audience. For instance, quantitative surveys conducted at the national and sub-national level could play an imperative role in informing migrants about the integration experiences of other migrants with (maybe) similar profiles, but their findings are usually shared between researchers, civil society actors and (rarely) policy-makers.
And here it comes the MigrantAdvisor organisation that aims to collect data, analyse and share useful information on migrant integration outcomes and integration-related policies and laws through an online platform as a single-access point. Through the platform, migrants will be able to explore the most suitable destinations to live and work based on their profile, needs, preferences, and their right to move in order to, subsequently, be “matched” with fitting living places. Reliable and timely information on living conditions in those places is vital for such an important decision.
It will be designed and developed so to allow migrant users to easily navigate and explore useful information using a clear language and user-friendly public interface and intuitive visualisation tools.
